General Preparation Instructions for a CT Scan

The preparation depends on the type of examination — with or without contrast agent — and the body area being scanned. Here are the most common instructions:

01

Fasting

– If your CT scan involves contrast (intravenous or oral), avoid eating or drinking for 4–6 hours beforehand, but you may drink water unless your doctor advises otherwise.

02

Allergy History

– If you have a history of allergies to iodine or contrast agents, inform your doctor in advance.

03

Medication

– You may take your medications as usual unless instructed otherwise by your doctor.

04

Kidney Function

– If contrast will be used, a blood test (creatinine) may be required to assess kidney function.

05

Clothing and Accessories

– Wear comfortable clothes and avoid metal objects (e.g., jewelry, belts, zippers), as they may interfere with image quality.

06

Inform Your Doctor If

– Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or suspect pregnancy, or if you have kidney problems or other chronic medical conditions.

In Case of Contrast Use (Intravenous or Oral)

– You may feel a warm sensation or a metallic taste during the injection — this is normal and usually subsides quickly.

– After the exam, drink plenty of water to help flush the contrast from your body.

The medical team will evaluate the need for iodine-based contrast to ensure the highest image quality, adjusting the dosage according to the scan protocol and the patient’s weight, while the patient is monitored throughout the procedure for any reactions by our specialized staff.
